Years after NeuroMexe-17 decimated the world, society is divided between the genetically resilient and those left vulnerable to the virus’s lingering mutations. In the deep South, the settlement of Assurance, Georgia has emerged as a rare sanctuary—self-sufficient, fortified, and ruled by a council of “Immunes,” survivors whose melanin-rich biology once shielded them from the virus.

But Assurance is far from the safe haven it claims to be. Beneath its orderly streets lies a shadow network of smuggled melanin-based treatments, desperate refugees seeking entry, and political schemes that threaten to unravel the fragile peace.
